My Take on ...... *Christmas*

It’s the most festive day of the year.  The most awaited season by everyone.  Christmas is the day of gathering, sharing, giving and loving.  This is the time that we forget our diet and indulge with fatty lechon, carbo overload with pasta and rice dishes and feel divine heaven with sweet desserts.  Healthy lifestyle set aside with all the parties/reunions that we need to attend.  It brings the families/friends closer and tighter.  Holiday rush is so fun, seeing people in the malls, bazaars and tiangges.  Christmas spirit is lingering in the air amidst the humid weather we are having.  Christmas is really more fun in the Philippines.

But may we not forget that this is the day where our savior Jesus Christ was born.  He sacrificed his life for us.  And through this may we share our blessings to the needy and most of all to the people in Compostela Valley in Mindanao which was affected by a devastating typhoon.  Let them celebrate a meaningful Christmas despite of what happened.

May we all have a joyous and meaningful Christmas!!!

My Take on ......*Love*

There is God’s best for everyone (tama nga ang sister ko!) It is not measured on how long or short you have been together, but on God’s perfect timing.  When I was in high school I asked him and prayed “Lord, bigyan mo ko ng sign para sa ibibigay mo sakin na partner.  Kung sino yung magbibigay sakin ng isang dozen ng favorite kong flower ibig sabihin sya yung gusto mong maging partner ko.” It happened two or three years after. I was already in college, after school I saw an arrangement of flowers in the dining table and it was for me but I didn’t took it seriously, I thought maybe he knew my sign then I prayed again “Second sign ko po dodoblehin yung unang sign ko.”  It did not happen.  I entered in a relationship that last for years, on random occasions I will receive flowers either one long stem or three lovely roses (di ko na naisip yung sign ko, baka di totoo), it has good and bad times but didn’t work.  Then one day my phone rang and the voice on the other line told me “Labas ka may aabot lang ako sa’yo” and so I did.  He handed me a bouquet of my favorite flower, I immediately remember my second sign. Asked him “Ilan piraso to?” he answered “24”.  Oh my golly wow my heart jumped for joy.  I messaged him “Alam mo ba yung sign ko?”, and he knew nothing.  He was the same guy who gave me my first dozen of blue roses 12 years ago.  Now I am sure that he is God’s best for me.  Who would have thought that after a decade and a half, we would travel the same path and re connect.  It is truly amazing how God works.  I am so blessed that the person who is there and always will be there in good or bad, happy or sad, up or down, laughter and tears, is the one He chose for me.  True love waits, trust and respect.  Indeed God blessed the broken road and led me straight to him.  Thank you D! You are the fluffiest!

My Take on ......*Yabu*

After bugging and waiting for a couple of weeks for my dear food trip partner, few days ago we had dinner at the most raved katsu place in the Metro…”Yabu the house of katsu”.  I read and heard a lot about this resto and been craving ever since.  The place opened their first branch in Megamall and it was a success, recently opened their second baby in Robinsons Magnolia and it was also a boom.  Lucky me it is a stone throw away from my office.  Before heading to our dinner I already did my homework and knew what we will have on our table.

My Take on ...... *Cambodia*

My dream country to visit since I was in high school.  I was so amazed by the beauty of Angkor Wat.  After an airline offered a discounted fare on one of their Asian destination which we can travel by land to the Kingdom of Wonders, my friends agreed to visit my ultimate wish.  After a day in Vietnam we hopped on a bus that will bring us to Phnom Penh, the capital of Cambodia and transferred to another bus to Siem Reap.

My Take on ......*Palawan*

Few days ago I went to Palawan…and another gastronomic adventure for me.  I’ve been to Palawan a couple times and planning to visit again for another food adventure.  My flight was delayed for a good two hours (always with this airline).  I just had coffee and orange juice for breakfast and I can hear my stomach grumbling.  Arrived in time for early lunch.

My Take on ......*Cebu*

One of the most popular tourist destination in the Philippines, “Queen City of the South”, Cebu!  We fortunately got a sale from one airline last year (nine months ago to be exact).  Originally planned by a group of five but because of certain work schedules we are down to three, undecided to push with the trip but the explorer in us showered us with optimism that we will enjoy the entire adventure.

My Take on ......*Zubuchon*

Who wouldn’t know the “Anthony Bourdain”?!? I always watched his program where he visit different countries and trying out their local (authentic!) cuisine, his gastronomic trips always include a bottle of beer and few sticks of cigarettes.  But his views, comments and opinions are very true and precise.  Few years back he visited our country and tried one of our famous lechon in Zubuchon.   We Filipinos have different ways of cooking and flavoring our roasted pig.  One of the best tasting lechon can be found in Cebu…”Lechon Cebu”, what makes it different from other lechon is the very moist and tasty meat that can be devoured even without the lechon sauce or Mang Tomas (for some Pinoy), but they serve a different condiment with the lechon Cebu, a combination of soy sauce and vinegar.  Zubuchon is one of the restaurants in Cebu that offers the most delicious lechon Cebu.  I have read and heard a lot of raves about Zubuchon and at last I had a chance to try it few weeks ago.

My Take on ...... *J. Co Donuts*

Long line awaits in every branch of this Premium Donut Café. Originally from Indonesia, gained success and introduced to other Asian countries. J. Co opened their first branch in the Philippines at SM Megamall. And started to branch out in different malls in the Metro. Their mission is to become the best Café that offers the best premium donut in the market.  What makes it the best is that they sourced fine quality ingredients around the world.

My Take on ......*Toast Box*

Aside from Japanese and Vietnamese, Singaporean cuisine is also one of my favorite.  The super tasty Hainanese Chicken which I will not get tired of eating.  And to my craving of Singaporean food, we visited Toast Box, sister company of Bread Talk which offers Singaporean Breakfast in a modern and relaxing ambiance.

My Take on ......*PB Co Peanut Butter Company*

Peanut Butter is a staple spread in our pantry.  Whether for breakfast or snack, children and children at heart loves this creamy, crunchy, buttery taste of Peanut Butter.  Pasta with Peanut Butter sounds weird but taste really yummy!  Saw a branch of PB Co in Mall of Asia, and my eyes twinkles as it is listed on my “to try food places”.  PB Co is a restaurant that specializes in different kinds of peanut butter from sweet to savory.  They also offer a wide array of dishes that incorporates peanut butter from Sandwiches down to Milk Shake.

My Take on ......*Sariwon Korean Barbecue*

Foodies by heart and by soul, blogger, happy campers and almost everyone are raving about restos in Bonifacio High Street.  We started with our gastronomic escapade at Sariwon Korean Barbecue for our super late lunch/afternoon snack.  Sariwon Korean Barbecue started from Sariwon in North Korea.  Developed a broth recipe from different fruits and vegetables for the Korean Bulgogi.  The first restaurant opened with just twenty seven seats and expanded to having 350 seats in their main branch.  Aside from bulgogi, Sariwon is  famed for their “Galbi” or barbecued short ribs.  Now it opened its first branch in the Philippines and we can enjoy the most awarded bulgogi and Galbi of Korea.

My Take on ...... * TeaTap*

The last milk tea on my list.  Last week we visited the place and it was Happiness.  Milk tea is happiness to my palate and the placid atmosphere is very inviting.  Tea Tap is one of the top ten milk tea in Metro Manila (based on  As we entered the place we were welcome by the little cute kitty on the foyer.  Blue, yellow and beige are the dominant colors. Calmness is what you will feel amidst the busy street outside unlike in any other milk tea places that you will order and leave immediately after.  Here you can stay as long as you want, chill and think.

My Take on ......*David's Hot Pot*

A week ago my friends and I had a shabu shabu dinner at David’s Hot Pot in a mall in Quezon City.  We initially plan to dine in Tong Yang but it is out of the way for most of us.  We already tried it a year ago but this time we are almost complete so decided to give it another go.

My Take on ......*Ma Chicken Mami House*

Before being amazed by Spidey, had a quick dinner at another noodle house. Just across the cinema is a little dining place for people who wants to enjoy a delicious and affordable meal.  Ma Chicken Mami House is catering to noodle soup lovers.  They are the counterpart of North Park Noodle which is their sister company. The menu is very simple that you won’t have a difficult time deciding on what to have.

My Take on ......*North Park*

We are now half way for the year 2012.  And the rainy season starts since last month.  Almost every week new typhoon is coming in our country.  What a way to beat the cold weather is to slurp on hot soup and dishes or just by sitting on your couch having your favorite comfort meal.  Last week I enjoyed North Park Noodle House in Banawe.  North Park is known for their sumptuous and delicious meal.  We usually dine here together with my friends and ordered Birthday noodles, yang chow and chicken, but this time it’s for their Mami. I wanted a noodle soup at another Mami house, but saw North Park on our way home.

My Take on ......*Bread Bag Pandesal*

My voucher will expire soon and my dear partner in food trips will be leaving again soon, thus the need to avail this is very substantial.  Pandesal is a staple in every Filipino family’s breakfast table.  Bread Bag is a place that offers pandesal as their main product filled with varieties of Filipino and International viands.  Their pandesal is very soft, chewy, filling and big as a burger bun.  Freshly baked-pugon style.  We got to savor six (6) out of eight (8) kinds of their pandesal sandwich.

My Take on ...... *Glutton Cookie*

It’s been three months since I purchased a voucher in one of the group buying sites.  Instantly caught my attention with the heading of a glutton cookie.  What is a glutton cookie?  Based on their menu it is a giant chocolate chip cookie topped with ice cream, that can be shared by four gluttons.  On the last day of the promotion, redeemed it and shared with my 4 office mates.  It is really huge.

My Take on ......*Blue*

My Take on......*Moving Forward*

It is the end of something simple and the beginning of everything else

Don't be afraid to change something in your life. You may lose the good thing you had, but you may also gain something that is even better than what you had

Never look back, as there is nothing there, look forward and move on  and you will find much more waiting for you there

Regret nothing, move forward and learn to forgive and forget

Accepting things in Life. Means your learning, to move on in life.

In order to accept the things we cannot change, we must first make changes.

Time for me to make a mistake, take a chance, laugh out loud, fall down hard, get up once again, smile big, fly away, play today, and keep moving forward.

My Take on ......*Jumbo Dumbo*

My puppy love…my partner…my housemate…my one and only… “JD”.  He will not sleep in the room if I’m not there, wherever I go he will follow, on days without work, he will sleep as long as I sleep, he will not get up if I’m still in bed, he will not leave the room if I am still inside, that’s why I love and adore him.

My Take on ......*Bistro Ravioli*

Ravioli is a kind of pasta filled with cheese or meat simmered in broth or smothered with sauce.  My love for food is my way of trying different dish.  Italian is one of my favorite cuisines next to Japanese and Vietnamese.  Had late lunch at Bistro Ravioli the other day, I have been craving ravioli for quite a while.  Ravioli started as a kiosk in Ortigas to cater for hungry mall goers, became an instant hit for the fresh pasta they’re serving and eventually opened up a branch and called Bistro Ravioli.

My Take on ......*Pahiyas Festival*

My third festival for this year.  Really had no plans of travelling for another 3 to 4 hours and walking under the extreme heat during noontime.  But when I opened the television and saw two TV station featuring the Pahiyas 2012, it made me change my mind.  I love to see the colorful kipings that is used to decorate the house in Lucban. Some says that this is the most colorful festival in the Philippines.  We got there after 3 hours ride from Manila.  We passed by Tayabas, way shorter than the Lucena route to Lucban.

My Take on ......*Respect*

If once you forfeit the confidence of your fellow-citizens, you can never regain their respect and esteem.  By Abraham Lincoln
It is a simple word with a huge meaning. Respect means giving attention or consideration to someone.  We were taught by our parents to respect the elders, our friends, our schoolmates, our teachers, our grandparents, our relatives and the people we meet.  In school we were also taught by our teachers to be an example to the younger generation.  But when our parents let us fly on our wings, we socialize, encounter, met a lot of people from different walks of life.  Then one of the values that was enrooted on us was put to test.  For me it is as simple as, “If you want to be respected by others, you should know how to respect in return, don’t ask for it unless you know how to give one.”.  But in the first place you should know how to respect yourself so you will be able to respect others.

My Take on ......*Ilocos Norte*

My first time in Ilocos was a year ago.  I was invited to see Vigan for the first time and agreed to go on a road trip for 7 long hours.  Arrived, slept and leave for Manila the next day at noon time.  Never did I stepped on the cobblestone of Calle Crisologo nor took at least one photo.  The travel time is longer than I spent in Vigan.  After a couple of months, my friend decided to spend her special day surfing in San Juan, La Union, being two hours away from Vigan the next morning we headed to Ilocos Sur to celebrate and have Pinakbet Pizza in Café Leona.  Exactly 181 days, now I am on the road again to one of the farthest tourist destination , Ilocos Norte.  12 grueling hours to Pagudpud.  Ilocos Norte is the best destination for road trippers, it will test your skills, endurance and patience but in the end will all be worth it.

So many things to do and places to visit in Ilocos.  We started from Pagudpud down to Vigan.  Stopped at every town arch and took pictures.

My Take on ......*Longganisa Sorpresa*

Filipinos loves eating regardless where or what time of the day.  Breakfast said to be the most important meal of the day, and one food that is staple to our breakfast table is Longganisa.  Now, we don’t need to wait for breakfast to have Longganisa. Philippines having 7, 107 islands has as many types of Longganisa.  Every province has their version. Whenever we crave for that piece of meat we need not travel so far and can easily hop to Longganisa Sorpresa anytime.  It’s a dining place that serves all types of Longganisa from different parts of the country.

My Take on ......*Matutina's*

There are a lot of restaurant to stop, to try, and to experience when you travel up north.  From Bulacan all the way up to Ilocos Norte.  Ask someone who enjoys eating and travelling they will recommend Matutina’s Seafood Restaurant in Pangasinan.   No one should miss this dining place.  Having three branches proved that they really are catering to the increasing number of loyal travelers, locals and foodies.  Indulging with the freshest seafood with a reasonable price partnered with excellent service.

My Take on ......*Mother's Day*

I feel so blessed to have a Super “Mother Goose”!  Up until this day she would wake up early just to prepare our baon for work (from breakfast, lunch, dessert minsan may merienda pa), heat water for bath (pag tag ulan), text us when it’s raining, wait for us when the water level in Malabon starts to rise just to hand us our bota and take care of our makukulit na dogs.  She taught us good values, let us fall and stand, understand our decision and choice.  Her dedication, support and unconditional love made us (the three ducklings) who we are today.  On this day dedicated to all the Moms in the world.  And to our one and only Goosely…a very special Mother’s Day to you Mommy!!! I love you!!! Kami naman ang magluluto ng food para di ka muna magluto for one day.

Happy Mother’s Day!!!

My Take on ......*Travel*

I must admit that I love travelling as much as I appreciate food.  The world is so beautiful and Philippines is much more FUN!!!, waiting to be seen.  Since then I have this plan to travel all over the country, to explore every province in every Region.  Enjoy the adventure as it never ends, take photos and relive the memories.  Pack light and enjoy the ride.

Happy travelling!!!

My Take on ......*Herencia Cafe*

Herencia is a Spanish word meaning heritage or inheritance.  Truly this cafe is a heritage, from the furniture and fixtures used.  The sister cafe of Saramsam in Laoag, Herencia in Paoay is the home of the famous Pinakbet Pizza.  Located in front of the picturesque St. Augustine Church or popularly known as Paoay Church that serves Ilocano Fusion Cuisine.  What a better way to savor the Ilocano cuisine with one of Unesco’s World Heritage site as a view. Your culinary trip to the northern part of the country will not be complete if you miss to dine at Herencia.

My Take on ......*Rub*

The first time I tried Rub was last year, posted few pictures in my FB account and became an instant must try with some of my friends.  For the second time I revisited their Morato branch.  I have seen their Kapitolyo branch but the one in Quezon City is more accessible to me.  I’m happy that their menu card is more appealing, from laminated paper to now a laminated sticker mounted on a xintra board.  The interior is painted with red, black and white.  Photos hanged on the wall like the Beatles crossing the Abbey Street.

My take on ...... *Saramsam Cafe*

Saramsam Café is a Fusion restaurant of Ilocano and Western dishes.  Owned by Mr. Sam Blas of Herencia Café and Balay de Blas.  Known for their Dinuguan Pizza and Poqui-poqui, a must try when you’re in Laoag.  Decided to have our super late lunch/merienda in this quaint restaurant.

My Take on ......*Milk Tea*

Another craze that’s been hitting Manila and ME, like mushrooms sprouting everywhere.  From Shawarma to Scramble to Frozen Yoghurt and now it’s Milk Tea.  It’s the new addiction of the peeps in the Metro.  Tea has more health benefits and less caffeine than coffee but that doesn’t mean that coffee does not have its own health benefits.

My Take on ......*Charlie's Grind*

I remember watching Ch 23’s “were u at” featuring a Burger place inside a Car wash area.  We checked out Charlie’s Grind on another visit to Kapitolyo.  Charlie’s is inside 2onetwo car wash. Initial plan was to try their Ronac Centre branch in Ortigas Avenue but eventually chose the Main branch.  Parking in Kapitolyo is a difficulty (sometimes!), to ease that you can have your car washed while enjoying a burger or the other way around.  Either way you are hitting two birds with one stone.

My Take on ......*Baler*

Situated in the mid-eastern coast of Luzon.  Generally mountainous with coastal flatlands.  Covering the Eastern part of Sierra Madre.  Aurora is now becoming one of the local tourist destinations.  Baler it’s capital is a go-to for surfing enthusiast.  We decided to spend our long vacation/holy week in this (un)developed part of the country.  My friends and I planned this trip for the fourth time.  Yes, we had planned this three times but failed to transpire.  We left Manila on a Friday at 3am, and will be enjoying Baler for 3 days.  It was indeed a smooth ride traversing through narrow gravel road with twists and turn through the Sierra Madre Mountain range and couple road mishaps.  And arrived safely at 8am.

My Take on ...... *BRGR The Burger Project*

If I want a real deal (masarap na swak pa sa budget) when it comes to burger I will go to Maginhawa and eat at BRGR The Burger Project.   I first learned about this place on TV features and visited them for quite a number of times .  A build your own burger is very interesting.  You have the freedom on what you want on your burger.  From the bun up to the sauce, your choice, your burger.

My Take on ......*Big Daddy's*

After watching Hunger Games in Mall of Asia, I immediately went to Gong Cha to buy my milk tea, across Gong Cha you can see a small orange space that serves crispy chicken chop as well as porky chop. And it spells "BIG Daddy's". Interested on how crispy it is, directly went after getting my tea.  Big Daddy’s is a famous chicken store in Taiwan.

My Take on ......*Uncle Cheffy*

On the way to Manila the last time my friends and I went to Tagaytay.  Filled with much enthusiasm, we were undecided where to take our lunch, will it be on Chubby’s Ribs or Uncle Cheffy (both in Solenad), consulted my ever reliable planner to see what’s on my list.  Chubby’s is not yet written but Uncle Cheffy was.  By the power of my planner we then go to Uncle Cheffy (but listed Chubby’s right away– I want to try their ribs!!!!).  We chose to sat near the corner to have a much perspective of the place.  The interiors are adorn by wood chops to emphasize the theme of brick oven cooking.  Giving it a rustic appeal but modernized by the fixtures used.

My Take on ......*4 Fingers*

After accompanying my sister in a mall, I asked her to have dinner at “4 Fingers”, this is the first franchise in the Philippines and it is in SM North Edsa, 4 Fingers has taken Singapore by storm, it is owned by four foodie friends (which represents the 4 Fingers in the logo) who decided to take the Korean-style fried chicken in Singapore when they saw it in New York.

My Take on ...... * Larry & Mau Diner*

Last Monday was the tail of the super long weekend.  It was “Araw ng Kagitingan” and there’s not much to do as I don’t want to bury myself in bed.  After strolling in the mall and helping my friend to scout a new get-up (naks, bagets!), the clock ticks and it’s time for “chowtime”, we decided to dine in Toast box and have dessert at Parvati but the two dining areas are jam packed by food lovers/hungry mallers/dessert afficionados.  As I remember Larry & Mau recently open a new branch in Centris Walk.  Decided on giving it a try. I found myself standing in front of the cashier who is happily taking my order.

My Take on ...... * Poco Deli*

After visiting Mad Mark’s we already planned that we will have dinner at Poco Deli on our next visit to Kapitolyo.  So after incurring all the stress from work, why not give myself a reward…like a dinner…thus our appetite brought us to this Little Delicatessen.  Poco Deli is known for their home made sausages.

They have different varieties of home-made sausages and cheese.  As well as cakes and a good selection of wines.  We arrived early for our dinner and couple of tables are occupied by people working around the area, having a glass of wine and a platter of sausage, chillin' (what a great way to end your day).  We sat near the display area, actually in front of it, for us to see the different kinds of their sausage (actually I don’t know much about it).
The gigantic menu
We ordered their Frankfurter Sausage, Quatrro Formaggi Pizza, US Steak Sandwich, Salmon Pasta and Black Out Chocolate Cake.

Frankfurter Sausage

Quattro Formaggi Pizza
We want to try their sausage as most foodies raved about it, but we don’t have any idea what to order, so the server suggested to try their Frankfurter as we love beef, and we truly enjoyed the taste very juicy and well cooked.  The Quattro Formaggi Pizza is a freshly made dough topped with four kinds of cheese (formaggi means cheese in Italian) Mozarella, Pecorino, Gorgonzola and Parmessan. Gooey, Salty, Creamy and Sweet.

Salmon Pasta

US Steak Sandwich
Norwegian Salmon on Pomodoro Sauce.  Right amount of sauce and chunks of salmon, squeezed two lemon wedges to enhance the salmon’s flavor, a bit salty for me but nevertheless its yummy.  On the other hand the US Sandwich (one of their best seller)is thinly sliced marinated corn fed beef topped with mozzarella cheese in New York Bagel with a side of chips.  It’s very good, the bagel is soft and the strips of beef is tender and juicy plus the added creaminess of the mozza.

And for dessert…

Blackout Chocolate Cake  Php 140.00/slice
One of the Best Chocolate Cake in Manila…The Black out Chocolate Cake.. We got this slice for 50% off just by clicking the discount coupon on their FB Page.  What a deal di ba…Moist, Rich and not sweet Valrhona Chocolate cake with caramel in the middle covered with premium Belgian chocolate chips, chocolate on chocolate…Love + Love.

We want to try the Bacon Slab with Bacon Rice but it’s not available that day…thus giving us a reason to come back again.

Over all Experience:

Super Duper Okei =) =) =) (Price, Ambience, Food, Service, Location)
